Anna "Jewell" Herron, 102, of Baxter, Tennessee, passed from this life Friday, March 26, 2021, at her home surrounded by her family.

Funeral Service for Jewell Herron will be held Monday, March 29, 2021, at 2:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Brother David Lipe, great-grandsons, Andy Hall, Adam Hall, and Toby Lee officiating. Interment will follow at the Double Springs Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, March 28, 2021, from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm and again Monday, March 29, 2021, from 1:00 pm until the time of service.

She was born October 22, 1918, to the late Alvin and Selina (Palk) Goolsby. Mrs. Herron was born in Medon, Tennessee, but grew up in Bloomington Springs, Double Springs, and Thomas Community. She worked at the Cookeville Shirt Factory for a couple of years then at Acme Boot Company for 33 years. She loved her work and all the friends she made at Acme before retiring to care for her elderly mother.

She was married 58 years to the late Otto Herron. Her family member include 4 children, Joyce Herron Anderson (L.D.) of Baxter, June Herron Garret (Dale) of Baxter, Jackie Lynn Herron (Chris) Owensville, Indiana, and the late Jimmy D. Herron of Baxter; Brother, Joe Goolsby of Cookeville, the late Charlie Goolsby, and the late Jasper Goolsby; three sisters, the late Inez Bowen Thomas, the late Mary Guinn Pierce, and Liloene Styers of Arkansas; 6 grandchildren, the late Jeff Herron, the late Jerry Herron, and the late Phillip Herron, Jill Lee, Beverly Hall, Barry Anderson; 11 great-grandchildren. the late Brian Herron and the late Brandi Herron, Tavis, Toby, and Troy Lee; Andy and Adam Hall, Lauren Hall Fox; William Anderson; Jesse and Anna Herron; 16 Great-Great-Grandchildren; She had wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws which are dear to her heart.

Mrs. Herron was a member of the Church of Christ and attended Bethlehem Church of Christ for 78 years and then attended Sycamore Church of Christ until her death.

She was known by her family, church family, neighbors, and coworkers for her Christian example, her loving, kind manner, her hospitality, her cooking, and contagious laugh.

She was a friend a counselor to many youth and teens throughout the neighborhood. Her door was always open for counseling, teaching, sharing wisdom, hugs, food, fun, and laughter. She referred to them as her "adopted sons and daughters"/ Jewell was known to many as "Granny Jewell".

Jewell and Otto always kept an open door policy and their doors were never locked. Their yard was joined to Bethlehem Church of Christ and Thomas Elementary School. There was rarely a Sunday or a day that went by when there was not a visitor in their home. Jewell always cooked for crowds and not just her family.

After raising her four children, she assisted her son Jimmy in raising his three children, Jeff, Jerry, and Jill. This kept her young at heart and wise through another generation.

She loved to mow grass and in addition to mowing her own yard, she maintained and mowed Double Springs Cemetery on Highway 70 and the Thomas-Herron cemetery on Water Plant Road for several years.

One of the joys in her later years was cooking meals for the college students at the (SOC) Servants of Christ at Sycamore Church of Christ.

Jewell loved to sing Gospel songs whether at church, at home, in the garden, or riding in a pick-up-truck. Jewell and Otto were constantly attending Gospel meetings and signings. Even in her late years when her memory was fading she could still sing many of the old Gospel songs.

Her daughter June and husband Dale Garrett would like to thank several people who have assisted them with the care of Jewell these last few years and have become "Granny SItters". They include Jill Lee, Beverly Hall, Carol Herron, Lacey Hall, Lauren Fox, Mike and Cheryl Goolsby, Judy Hill, Marcia Spears, Elma, and Jenny Allison, Wanda Nash, Pam Goolsby, and Cathy Hill.

We would also like to thank Highland Rim Home Health for the gentle and kind care provided by every caregiver especially, Maralee Borawski, Regina Matthews, Sheri Maynard, Suzanne Boswell, Carolyn Chaffin, Amy Cherry, Holly, and Penny Maxwell.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Double Springs Cemetery, P.O. Box 366, Cookeville, Tennessee, 38503, or to Servants of Christ (SOC) at Symacore Church of Christ.

I met Ms. Herron when I was working at Master's Appliance on the Courthouse Square. She was a very sweet lady and always a joy to talk with. She would come by often just to say hello and visit. She loved to talk and visit with everyone there. I will always have fond memories of her. I will be praying for her family. Take comfort in knowing she is with our Heavenly Father and her loved ones.
