Obituary for Thomas Franklin Baker

Thomas Franklin Baker “Frank” of Cookeville, a devoted Christian, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, joined the angels singing in heaven on February 25, 2022 after an extended illness. He passed peacefully at his residence surrounded by his devoted wife and family.

Frank was born April 3rd, 1945 in White County, to the late William and Margie (Brown) Baker. He grew up in White County along with his siblings. He is preceded in death by a sister Helen Baker Null and brothers; Harold, Wilburn, and Sammie Lee Baker. Surviving siblings are sister Paulette (Abner) Graham of Sparta, TN, and brother Billy Joe (Donna) Baker of Monterey, TN, along with many nieces and nephews.

On June 21, 1969, he married the love of his life Jo Helen Smith Baker. They enjoyed 53 years together, constantly by each others side. Jo Helen was from a large family that accepted Frank as a son and brother not just an in- law. Even though they did not have any children they were blessed with many nieces and nephews that he was like a second father to, and their children became his grandchildren.

Frank was a member of McBroom’s Chapel Church of Christ for over 40 years where he served as a song leader. Frank loved the Lord, his church, and helping others. He often would give rides to church to other members and served any way he could.
Frank had many jobs in life from working vending routes, to Pepsi, and at last working for Union Planters Bank before his retirement. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. Frank loved to fish and be outside. When his health allowed he loved to work his garden and lawn. He loved gospel music and would often be heard singing. Even after his health started to fail his love of music never stopped.

Frank is preceded in death by a very special brother- in- law and constant friend Steve Denton.

He is survived by a very special sister- in- law and caretaker Jean Smith Denton and special brother- in- law James Smith. He is survived by “his boys”, nephews; Lamar and Kevin Smith. Also surviving is special niece and caretaker at the end Dianne Cotton. Frank leaves to cherish his memory Jo Helen’s family and his many friends he made along the way.
