Shirl R. Allen, 83, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 29, 2023. He was surrounded by his family whom he loved so much.
Shirl was born in Jackson County, Tennessee, on September 11, 1939, to the late Abner and Dona Allen.
He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a faithful member of the Willow Avenue church of Christ for more than 40 years. When he met a new person, he could usually figure out that they were either related to him or they were related to someone he knew. He never met a stranger and was a friend to everyone he met.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora (Qualls) Allen, whom he married on January 1, 1983; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Amy) Allen, Brian (Mary Dee) Allen, David (Donna) Qualls, Steve (Beth) Qualls. One daughter, Cheryl Q. (Jim) Thomas; two sisters, Sue (Denny Turney) Smith and Beverly Papuchis; and one brother Donnie (Peggy) Allen.
He adored his grandchildren, Jesse Allen, Benjamin Allen, Josh (Emily) Qualls, Zach (Karli) Qualls, Emily Q. (Cory) Lethgo, Austin (fiancé - Madison) Thomas, and Bailey Rose. His five great-grandchildren were a joy to him, Cooper Qualls, Kate Lethgo, Sawyer Qualls, Judah Lethgo and Claire Lethgo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Dalton, and Pope Allen, and one sister, Evelyn Petty as well as his father and mother-in-law Fred and Melia Turner.
Funeral services will be held at Crestlawn Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 1:00pm with visitation from 10:00am until the time of service.
