Mildred Berniece "Locke" Kirby, 103, passed from this life Sunday, March 5, 2023, at Bethesda Health Care Center.
Mildred was born Saturday, September 20, 1919, in the Flynns Creek Community of Gainesboro, Tennessee to the late Harshel McDowell Locke and Vela Viola (Pippin) Locke.
On September 19, 1938, she married John William Kirby. They resided in the Granville Community of Jackson County until approximately 1970 when they moved to Putnam County. Ms. Kirby was an employee of Heavy Duty Manufacturing Company, in Gainesboro, Tennessee, until her retirement. She was a member of the Double Springs Church of Christ and the church ladies' quilting group. Following the death of her husband on January 11, 1995, she resided in the Upper Cumberland Christian Homes, in Cookeville, Tennessee for 21 years, Due to her health conditions, she resided at Bethesda Health Care Center from March 23, 2022, until her death.
Ms. Kirby enjoyed quilting, gardening, and taking care of her family.
Mildred is survived by, Daughter Katherine "Kathy" Boles and her husband Bob of Silver Point, Tennessee; Son, James Edwin Kirby of Nashville, Tennessee; 2 Sisters, Johnnie Faye Pruitt of Gainesboro, Tennessee, and Sallie Daniels of Palmdale, California; 2 Brothers, Austin Locke of Old Hickory, Tennessee, and Gilbert Locke of Homosassa, Florida; She is also survived by four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by, Husband, John William Kirby; Daughter, Helen "Carol" (Kirby) Bender; Grandson, Jerry Frank Bolinger, Jr.; Sister, Roasmond Malone Locke; 3 Brothers, Donal, Earl, and Kenneth Locke.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the church ladies' quilting group.
Funeral Service for Mildred Berniece (Locke) Kirby will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, at 1:00 pm from the Double Springs Church of Christ with Bro. Ronald Strong officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held Friday, March 10, 2023, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at Double Springs Church of Christ.
