Obituary for Michael Ashbrook Smith

Michael Ashbrook Smith, 79, of Cookeville, Tennessee, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 at his home.

Michael was born on February 14, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Charles and Jane (Ashbrook) Smith.

Mike was an avid boater and loved navigating Lake Erie on the "Mijo". He was commodore of the Inter-Lakie Yachting Association based on Lake Erie, and is honored with a memorial for past I-LYA commodores located on South Bass island, Put-In-Bay, Ohio.

As a profession, Mike was a recruiter and had his own company in Willoughby, Ohio near Cleveland.

Michael is a Christian man belonging to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Cookeville. He loved his God, his family and his dogs; Beau and Chotsy.

Michael is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie "Jody" (Burr) Smith of Cookeville. The Smiths celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Mike is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, scattered about the United States. The most supportive of these being Richard and Vicki Poston, Brent and Kelly Poston Harris and children; Caitlyn, Asher, Greyson, and Jacob Poston of Cookeville, Andrew Castellini and family of Cincinnati and Charles "Chip" Smith and family of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by, 2 Siblings, Charles "Charlie" Smith and Susan Smith Castellini.

Services will be Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 11:00 am performed by Father Aby of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

The Smith family wishes to thank Hospice care nurses, and especially Daniel Phillips who lovingly took care of Michael.
