James "Jim" Edward Phillips, 78 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Jim was born Thursday, August 17, 1944, in Harriman, Tennessee, and he was the son of the late James Fletcher Phillips and the late Bessie Elizabeth (Bostain) Phillips.
Jim was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Papa, and friend. He loved his family, his country, and his God. He proudly served in the United States Army and was in the Infantry in Vietnam and received a host of medals including the Purple Heart. He loved telling people about Jesus, was a Deacon at Central Emmanuel Baptist Church, Stevens Street Baptist Church, and Pastored at Dodson Branch Southern Baptist Church for 22 years. He was a member of the Poplar Grove Baptist Church. He was founder of the Care Center at Stevens Street Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by, Wife of 56 Years, Janet (Blake) Phillips; 2 Children, Wes Phillips and his wife, Jessica; Jill McDermott and her husband, Aaron; 5 Granddaughters, Audrey and Alli Phillips, Ava, Adalyn, and Averi McDermott; 2 Sisters, Brenda Jones and her husband, Bobby, and Wanda Frost and her husband, Jim; A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by, 2 Brothers, Bobby and Bruce Phillips; 2 Nieces, Brooke Phillips, and Paige Phillips; 2 Sisters-In-Law, Sheila Phillips, and Peaches Phillips.
Funeral Service for James "Jim" Edward Phillips will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 3:00 pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bros. Roy Allen, Jimmy Arms, Jason Groe, and Larry Self officiating. Interment will follow in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, January 24, 2023, from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 3:00 pm at Crest Lawn Funeral Home.
