Obituary for Howard Bryant

Hollis Howard Bryant age 96 of Cookeville, Tennessee passed from this life Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born Saturday, November 29, 1924, in Putnam County to the late Charley Elwood Bryant and Bertha Mae (Ray) Bryant. Although he traveled to many places, he lived most of his life in Putnam County.

He was a lifetime member of West View Baptist Church and a Mason. He retired after 40 years of service from W. R. Whitaker and Sons (Cream City Ice Cream). In his younger days, he played guitar and sang with The Tennessee Valley Play Boys and The Dixie Play Boys. Many times he was referred to as a true “Gentleman.”

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Reba (Swack) Bryant of Cookeville, one daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Maxwell, and son-in-law Harold Maxwell. One grandchild, Kimberly Lindsey, and spouse Danny; three great-grandchildren, Kristen and Daulton Lindsey, of Cookeville, and Danielle Junion and spouse, Gustavo, of Lebanon; 3 great-great-grandchildren Vince, Alex, and Avery.

Also survived by a sister-in-law, Eleanor Bryant, of Concord, California, and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Mae Olive, and by brothers Charles Lee, Estel, and Thurston Bryant, and Willie Bradford.

Funeral services for Howard will be held Friday, January 15 beginning at 2:00 pm at West View Baptist Church in Cookeville. Interment will follow in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville.

The family will receive friends at West View Baptist Church Friday, January 15 from 11:00 am until the time of service at 2:00 pm.
