Obituary for Hazel Plant Simcox

Hazel Plant Simcox entered the gates of heaven on March 5th, 2022, to be with her precious Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Hazel passed away peacefully with her family at her side at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.

Hazel was born in Nashville, TN, on August 13th, 1954, to Bill Cox Plant, Sr. and Mary Ann Plant.

She was a member of Stevens Street Baptist Church. Hazel obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Tennessee Tech University. Hazel devoted her professional life to teaching. Hazel was a retired first, second, and third-grade teacher in the Putnam County School System, teaching at Capshaw for 35 years. She was fondly called Mrs. Hazel and Mrs. Simcox by her students. Hazel was an avid artist, which led to her creation of ten coloring books in the Color Me Happy coloring book series.

Hazel was married to Wayne Simcox, the love of her life. They had a special relationship that lasted for over 49 years. They have three children: Mary Ann (Ross) Fanning, Patrick (Lacey) Simcox, and Robert Simcox. She has two grandchildren, Harper Grace and Lucas Simcox, whom she adored.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Ann Plant, her two sisters Hope Carrol (Terry) of Nashville, TN, and Mary Lynn Pogue of Columbia, TN, and several nieces, nephews, and their families, as well as many cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Hazel was preceded in death by her father Bill Cox Plant, Sr., and brother Billy Plant, Jr.

Hazel will be remembered by her family and friends by living the verse, "love one another."

Funeral services for Hazel will be held Thursday, March 10, 2022, beginning at 1:00pm from the chapel of Crest Lawn Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Frank officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Springs Cemetery in Buffalo Valley, Tennessee.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 9, 2022, from 5:00pm until 8:00pm and again on Thursday March 10, from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm.
