Our family is very sad at the passing of our loved one, Edward “Eddie” John Evans Jr. Edward was born in Trenton, New Jersey November 29th, 1932 to Lillian Mae Evans and Edward John Evans. He passed away on Monday, December 7th at Cookeville Regional Medical Center due to complications of the Covid-19 virus. Eddie married Mabel Jean Brook on February 10th, 1951. At this time, he joined the United States Marine Corps and went on to fight on the front line with heavy artillery guns in the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged from the Marines, he became a policeman with the Ewing Township Police Department in Trenton, New Jersey. He started as a patrolman and worked his way up to Lieutenant before he retired after a serious injury on the job in 1974Eddie was a marksman he helped design the shooting range at the Ewing Township Police Department. He has many shooting awards in both the Marines and Police He was a dead shot right up till his death. After retirement from the Police Department, he took up woodcarving and was known as the Happy Chiseler. He carved custom hand made fireplace mantels, furniture, and people. Before his death, he was making a beautiful table for his son-in-law but did not get to finish it. He was an animal lover and had many beloved dogs and cats over the years and at the time of his death he had two rescue donkeys and two cats. Eddie also loved car racing and when he was young owned a 1959 MG. After retirement, he moved to Venice, Florida. His daughter moved to Cookeville in 1997 and Eddie, along with other family members relocated here in 2001. He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Mael “Jean” Evans, a daughter Cindy Jean and husband Fred Bellis, who was his best friend, a Grandson Nicholas Allen Crosby, who he loved like a son, Great Grandaughter Kyra Maylee Crosby. He was preceded in death by his parents a daughter, Alice Lillian Evans. He also leaves behind a very large family in New Jersey and Florida. His wishes were cremation with no services and his wishes will be honored. Daddy was a strong healthy man until this virus came and took him from us. Our hearts are breaking. As his daughter writing this obituary, I was so blessed to have him as my Father. He was the best father in the world and took a piece of my heart with him when he left us but know we will be together again in Heaven. 2020 has been a terrible year for so many families.
