David Watson Bruce was born in Stephens County, Georgia on February 21, 1936. He was the son of Margaret and John Bruce. In 1954 he went to work as a lineman for General Telephone Co. He was the telephone man in a little town called Carnesville, GA where he met and married his future wife, Johnnie Busha. They were married in July 1959 and started a family. He moved his family to Cookeville, TN in 1967. After retiring as district manager from GTE in 1982 he enjoyed growing a garden, woodworking, and playing cards and board games with his grandchildren. All the kids loved Grandpa’s sweet corn.

David passed from this life on March 5, 2021 at his home, where he wanted to be. David is survived by his wife, sons David Jr. (Donna), Greg (Teresa), and Ken Bruce, grandchildren Kenneth Cornett, Candra Sparks (Chris), Sarah McAlpin, Harrison, Jonathan (Tressa), and Josh (Checovoia) Bruce, and great-grandchildren Clayton and Chloe Sparks, Blaine and Mahler McAlpin, and Alyce, Jayce, Embyrlee, and Lucca Bruce.

A graveside service was held on March 6 at Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery with Bill Stone officiating.
