Obituary

Barbara Ann Fisher Nabors reached her heavenly home on Monday, April 19. Surrounded by her loving family, “Barb” passed peacefully from her earthly home in Cookeville into the arms of Jesus following a 30-year battle with multiple sclerosis. She was 80 years old.

Born to Beatrice and Harvey Fisher on September 4th, 1940, Barb became a gift to the world. Herbeautiful smile and infectious laughter and love of the Lord drew people to her, including her devoted husband of 59 years, Charles Nabors, who swept her off her feet and married her on December 23, 1961. Their life together was the ultimate love story. Together, they had two childrenand three wonderful grandchildren, who adored their Mimi.

Anyone who knew Barbara would say there was literally nothing she could not do. Barb was a continuous learner with a diverse skillset. An avid tennis player, aerobics teacher, water sports enthusiast, gifted artist, musician, seamstress, antique collector and successful real estate agent, her active lifestyle was cut short by her incurable illness at the age of 50, but through it all, she rarely complained or lost her joy for life. She had every reason to be angry and bitter, but instead of giving up, the weakershe became, the stronger her resolve grew to love much, live well and laugh often. She has been an amazing source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her!

Barb, also known as Mommy, Mimi, Ba-Ba-Bar-Ann, Country Girl and the Wild Woman of Tennessee, is survived by her adoring husband, Charles, children – Karen Stone (Dennis) of Nashville and Chuck Nabors (PJ) of Maryville, grandchildren – Connor Stone, Rachel Stone and April Joy Nabors, sister – Sue Ragland (Charles) of Gainesboro, brother – Bill Fisher of Cookeville. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, sister – Reba Messina of Detroit and brother – Harvey “Bud” Fisher of Tucson.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all who have supported Barbara and Charles throughout her long illness. A special thanks to her beloved caregivers and adopted family, Loretta Pigg, Donna Nabors (cousin), Zella Allen, Reba Nash, Diana Dale, and Jean Allen for their steadfast love and attention. The family is also deeply grateful to Upper Cumberland Hospice team for the incredible care throughout the past year. Special thanks to Lora Williams, Kirby Hale and Effie Vance. You are all angels on earth.

A celebration of life is planned for 11:00 am on April 23, 2021 at Crest Lawn Funeral Home in Cookeville, 800 Jackson Street. The family will host a visitation at Crest Lawn on Thursday, April 22 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Friday from 10:00-11:00.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Barbara’s honor to the MS Society at the link below or by check mailed to: National MS Society, 214 Overlook Circle, Suite 153, Brentwood, TN 37027.
